Privacy
HippoDatamus collects nothing.
The application makes no network connections. It has no telemetry, no analytics, no crash reporting, no update check, and no licence check. It needs no account and no internet connection, and it runs on a machine that has never been online.
It reads only the files you point it at and writes only where you tell it to. Your schemas, the files they read, and the data you generate stay on your computer. There is no mechanism by which we could see any of them.
Files it writes
One preferences file, at ~/.hippodatamus/preferences.json, holding window size and which column types you have marked as favourites. Nothing else is written outside the output paths you choose.
Source data is your responsibility
A file-backed column reads a spreadsheet or CSV that you choose. If that file contains real personal information, that processing is yours: we never receive it and have no access to it. Section 8 of the licence says the same thing in more words.
Bundles are worth a second look before you send one. Exporting a bundle copies your source files into it, which is the point, because it makes a scenario portable. But it means a bundle can contain whatever those files contained.
This website
Hosted on Cloudflare, which keeps standard server logs including IP addresses, as any web server does. There are no analytics, no tracking cookies, and no third-party scripts. Every page loads only from this domain.
Downloads served from GitHub are subject to GitHub's privacy statement once you follow the link. Installing from the Microsoft Store is subject to Microsoft's.
If this changes
Any future version that connects to the network will say so here, in the release notes, and in section 9 of the licence, and it will be possible to turn off. That is a commitment about how a change gets communicated, not a hint that one is planned.
